Bedoya Bells Training Philosophy

They say you have to stand for something, or you'll fall for anything. In the chaotic world of fitness, it's easy to get lost in random classes and intense online workouts that don't quite fit you or your body. Nicole felt the same way. She created Bedoya Bells to be the program she wished existed when she was first falling in love with strength training. Here are some of the principles we live by:

6-Week Program Cycles

 

Our programs are structured in 6-week cycles, giving you plenty of time to master the movements and build strength while keeping things exciting. By repeating our workouts for 6 weeks, you’ll spend the first few weeks getting familiar with the movement patterns and the last few weeks really pushing the weights and challenging yourself. The progress you’ll see from week 1 to week 6 will leave you feeling strong and unstoppable. Then it’s on to the next 6-week cycle with new challenges to conquer. It’s seriously fun!

Training Three Times a Week

 

Too much structure and people feel stifled. Not enough and no progress happens. That’s why we believe in three full-body strength workouts a week for long-term consistency and results. You get enough strength work to build and maintain muscle, but you’re not so rigid that you can’t enjoy other activities. You’ll have plenty of time for yoga, running, hiking, pickleball, or whatever else you love. In fact, we encourage you to complement our three solid strength days with some cardiovascular training on your off days to keep both your muscles and heart healthy.

Leveling System for Movements

 

Work where you're at! Some days you'll be ready to hit a workout at 100%, and other days you might feel sluggish and strangely weak. We listen to our bodies and understand that every workout can look different. That's why we have a leveling system for exercises. I’ll always give you options in class to make the move a little harder or a little easier based on how you're feeling that day. Progress comes from consistency. Providing levels allows you to work at your own pace, even in a class environment, and keep progressing.

Never Skip a Warm-Up

 

As we age, many people just want to "feel good," but their workouts often don't reflect that goal. They stick to repetitive movements like bicep curls, bike rides, and squats, without taking the time to properly warm up and move their bodies in different ways. At Bedoya Bells, we prioritize comprehensive warm-ups that get your body moving in all planes, twisting, turning, and getting low! We start with gentle movements and mobility work, then progress to more specific exercises to prepare for the main workout, and finally, we prime your central nervous system. We never skip a warm-up, and you'll be surprised to see that we dedicate a full 10-15 minutes to it because it's a vital part of your training session.

Balanced Training Sessions

 

Kettlebells are primarily hinge-based, with moves like cleans, swings, and snatches all focusing on that pattern. If you've ever felt wrecked or had lower back pain after a kettlebell class, it might be because you spent 60 minutes hinging. To keep your body feeling good, you need a smart and well-balanced plan. At Bedoya Bells, we hit all the movement patterns (hinge, squat, push, pull, rotate, gait) intentionally. We combine the best of traditional strength training with the fun and flow of kettlebells. Our workouts ensure you get a well-rounded session without missing out on the magic of kettlebell training.

Hey hey!

I'm Nicole Bedoya, the creative mastermind behind Bedoya Bells! I'm a certified personal trainer and kettlebell coach. I built Bedoya Bells to bring that awesome in-person community vibe to the online world.

Defining Moments ❤️

One mission close to my heart is helping women shake off years of feeling like fitness is a punishment for their bodies. I want to create a safe space where women can be strong and capable. I had an eating disorder for 10 years, and it was through strength training that I truly grounded myself and healed my body image. Women deserve to be strong, take up space, and focus on longevity and well-being, not just their size.

In 2022, I had my first big injury. It was a tough moment, but it fueled my fire to train smarter. That injury was a blessing in disguise because it made me value things like warm-ups and smart training (you know, the things you neglect when you're 20 and think you will be forever). Now, I appreciate bulletproofing my body and sharing that wisdom with you.

The BB Era 🔥

Building Bedoya Bells is truly my dream come true. I went to the University of Virginia and, believe it or not, ended up with a finance degree. After five years working for a major consulting firm while also teaching group fitness classes, 2020 flipped everything upside down. That’s when I started teaching ZOOM classes online and eventually took the scary plunge to quit my job and coach full-time.

After tons of trial and error, I believe we have something uniquely special with Bedoya Bells. I believe in everything this community stands for, and the people inside the membership are some of the best I've ever met.

I can't wait to keep coaching, growing, and showing up for Bedoya Bells. I hope that includes you soon!
